Cant create worksets from Revit Architecture 9

I'm currently at a point in my project where I would like to create worksets. After clicking the workset button and agreeing with the default names by clicking okay in the Worksharing dialog box , the status bar across the bottom goes as far as 10% complete and then it stops. The file size is 75000KB and I have let it run as long as an hour with no results. Is there something that I'm not doing correctly here? This is the third project that I have created worksets on and it is the first with problems. Any help would be appreciated.

I assume you are refering to Revit Architecture 2009?  Do you have any linked CAD files or anything like that?  Here are the steps I would take:

1.  Purge the Revit file.

2.  Save the Revit file using "save as" and make sure you compress the file in the save options.

3.  If the two options above don't work, detach any links you have in the file.

I wouldn't think that creating the workset would take much more than 10 minutes, depending on how fast your computer is.

Let me know what works/doesn't work and how it goes.

Did you ever get your problem resolved?  If so, what worked?

After purging, resaving and removing the linked .dwgs the process still wasn't working. At that point I tried opening the file from the pull-down menu with the "audit" boxed checked and still nothing. Luckily, my office just got a new computer myself which has a quad core and 8 GB of RAM and 64 bit operating system, so I tried running the process on that and it worked. I even tried to do it with the orignal larger file version and it worked as well.  The total time required for the larger version was about 30 minutes. So I guess the true culprit here was my old computer (that was only a few years old) which only had only a dual core and 2 GB of RAM.

Steve,

Thanks a ton for that reply.  That's really helpful.  Yeah, if I had known you were running a file that big on a machine with only 2 GB of RAM, I could have clued you on that one.  We recently finished a project where 8 GB of RAM was barely enough...ha!

Again, thanks for the post.

P.S.  64 bit helps a lot too : )  Just re-visiting this.
